What is it?

Exfoliation is the removal of the outermost surface which is dead skin cells.  There are two types of exfoliation - Mechanical and Chemical. Mechanical exfoliation is when you physically scrub the skin with an abrasive to sluff off the dead skin.  Face washes with microbeads, sugar scrubs, pumice stones and loofahs are all examples of mechanical exfoliation. Chemical exfoliation is where the skin cells are removed by chemicals, such as salicylic acids or citric acid.

SexaPeel™ is a chemical exfoliate that uses apple fruit, lemon and kiwi enzymes, hyaluronic acid, mango seed and argan oil as well as glycolic acid.  Chemical exfoliates are great because they do the work for you! With mechanical exfoliation, there is a possibility to harm your skin by being too aggressive and damage and tear the skin on a microscopic level. SexaPeel™ is as easy as spray, rub and rinse!

Is it right for me?

We have said it before but we will say it again - everyone’s skin reacts to products differently and there really is no holy grail product that works for EVERYONE, but we certainly do love and recommend it! We use this for personal use and are in the process of incorporating it into our skincare for clients.  Meghan and I both have very different skin texture and types. I have very sensitive, dry skin and Meghan has slight combination skin. This works wonders for both of us and is worth its weight in gold in the dry harsh Michigan Winter. However, we do want to note that it contains alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) which can increase skin’s sensitivity to the sun.  Aka - wear sunscreen and be smart outside when using the product. Also, if you have a self tanner on, this will break it down and take it off - so use BEFORE your self tanner for a smoother application!

A few tips from the pros!

  • This isn’t just for your face!  Use this anywhere you would like from your feet, legs etc.!  However, please do not use it in your ears or any personal body parts, eyes or lips.  A great spot is on cuticles and hands!

  • For those of you with tattoos that are looking a little dull and tired - it can really help revive those colors hidden underneath dry dead skin layer! (Seriously…. look at the picture below!!)

  • Start out using once a week if you have sensitive skin and then increase to two days a week if you see fit!

  • After using SexApeel, use Sonia’s water balm that we reviewed here!  They work together beautifully, as does everything in her skin care line.
